Eyebrow pencil has become a part of my daily life. I wear it every time I go out and about. Since i prefer eyebrow matic, my favorite has always been Benefit Precisely, My Brow. However, when I looked to Indonesian products, I was surprised that many brands offer great eyebrow matic. Back then, most Indonesian brands had only brow pencil in which I had to constantly sharpen the tip to get a precise application. Am I the only one who get frustrated sharpening the pencil? I am just not good at it. They always begin to crumble every time it hits the blade of the sharpener. However, most of the Indonesian automatic brow pencils are produced abroad, even some of them are produced in the same company. Here I have tried 6 Indonesian twist-up brow pencils. Most of them are really good if not to say a dupe for the Benefit. I list them from my least to my most favorite. Keep on reading..
Before we get to the list, I will compare them side by side so you can see the similarities as well as differences clearly. The brow products that I reviewed, based on the alphabets, are Beauty Story High Brow, BLP Beauty Brow Definer, Emina Double Agent Eyebrow, Mizzu Brow-Wow, Ultima II Wonderwear Eye-Posh Brow Filler, and Wardah EyeXpert Matic Brow Pencil.
Now, here are the list of my least favorite to my most favorite Indonesian automatic brow pencil:
6. Emina Double Agent Eyebrow
Price: 84.000 IDR
Amount: 0.3 gr
Shade: 2 (Black and Brown)
Ingredients: Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Microcrystalline Wax, Mica, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-1, Polyethylene, Silica, Acetylated Gyceryl Stearate/Palmitate, Sorbitan Stearate, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin. May Contain: CI 77891, CI 77499, CI 77491, CI 77492.
Produced in: Shanghai Beukay Cosmetics Co.,Ltd. Shanghai-China
Emina Double Agent is sadly my least favorite products among them. Even it is the least, it doesn’t mean that I don’t like them. It is simply because I prefer skinny pencil to triangle-shaped tip. This kinda tip cannot precisely draw the tail of my eyebrow. You certainly can get perfectly shaped brow by cleaning the edges of your eyebrow with concealer. However, it is just to much hassle for everyday wear. Also, the pencil is very stiff.
I don’t really like the spoolie on this product. It is too big and too loose for my sparse eyebrow. I prefer skinnier and tighter spoolie. I think those with full grown eyebrow will love this kind of spoolie.
The color of this product is the softest among all of them. Due to the stiffness of the pencil, you will not get good color payoff with single stroke. You need firm pressure to get the color so it’s not easy to use this for creating thin hair-like stroke marks or to define the eyebrow shape. It’s better suited as a fill-in product. Because the tip of the pencil is triangle, it is easy to fill in the front edge of my brow. Here I used the shade black, which is more like grey. The color matches my eyebrow perfectly. It also lasts very long even though I wash my face for wudhu.
5. BLP Beauty Brow Definer
Price: 109.000 IDR
Amount: 0.09 gr
Shade: 2 (Brown and Dark Brown)
Ingredients: Diisostearyl Malate, Triethylhexanoin, C20-40 Acid, C20-40 Alcohols, Polyethylene, Synthetic Wax, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer, Ethylcellulose, Boron Nitrida, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate. May Contain: CI 77499, CI 77491, Mica, CI 77742
Produced in: Schwan-Stabilo Cosmetics GmbH & Co. KG, Germany.
BLP Beauty Brow Definer is skinny eyebrow pencil with spoolie at the other end. The tip of the pencil is small, but not as small as Benefit Precisely My Brow. This is the second most expensive Indonesian brow pencil that I tried when in fact it is produced in similar company to Mizzu, Beauty Story, and Ultima II. All of the have similar type of pencil, which is actually good for precise drawing.
This is the kind of spoolie that I like. It is tight and small so that it can blend the product to avoid harsh lines. The spoolie can also brush my unruly brow hair upward.
The formula itself is soft and creamy. Due to its super creamy texture, it is quite difficult to keep control on the application. Sometimes, the color is not blended and create harsh lines. This product is the creamiest among all of the brow products mentioned in this article. Thus, the result is less natural. Here I tried shade brown, which is quite reddish, which I don’t really fond of. I prefer cool tone for my brow since my hair is black. That is why I put this on my number 5. Maybe dark brown suits me more. But, after all, BLP only offers two shade, which is very lacking. Hence, the color lasts all day.
4. Wardah EyeXpert Matic Brow Pencil
Price: 44.000 IDR
Amount: 0.09 gr
Shade: 2 (Brown and Deep Grey)
Ingredients: (not mentioned)
Produced in: (not mentioned)
Wardah EyeXpert Matic Brow Pencil is my least favorite in term of packaging because it has no spoolie. The color of the packaging is also very dull in my opinion. However, the pencil itself is very good. It is firm enough to give you control on drawing the hair strokes on your brow. This is the cheapest Indonesian automatic brow pencil, but it runs out very fast. I used it for two weeks straight before it ran out totally. Among all of the others, Wardah is the only that doesn’t mention the ingredients and the name of the company that produces the pencil.
The Deep Grey color matches my eyebrow very well. I am so glad that every brow products in this article lasts all day, including Wardah. The downside is that this pencil sticks where you place them, and they don’t blend together too well.
3. Mizzu Brow-Wow
Price: 65.000 IDR
Amount: 0.09 gr
Shade: 4 (Dark, Mid, Light, and Grey)
Ingredients: Diisostearyl Malate, Triethylhexanoin, C20-40 Acid, C20-40 Alcohols, Synthetic Wax, Polyethylene, Glyceryl Behenate / Eicosadioate, Ethylene / Propylene Copolymer, Ethylcellulose, Mica, Boron Nitride, VP/ Eicosene Copolymer, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate. May Contain : CI 77499, CI 77491, CI 77891, CI 77492.
Produced in: Schwan-Stabilo Cosmetics GmbH & Co. KG, Germany. (similar to BLP Beauty Brow Definer)
Mizzu Brow-Wow is one of the best Indonesian eyebrow pencil. The pencil is skinny. It is also has a spoolie, which is similar to BLP Beauty Brow Definer and Beauty Story High Brow. I give two thumbs up for Mizzu because it offers 4 shades. The other brands which are produced in similar company to Mizzu only has two shade options.
2. Ultima II Wonderwear Eye-Posh Brow Filler
Price: 120.000 IDR
Amount: 0.09 gr
Shade: 2 (Light Brown and Natural Black)
Ingredients: Diisostearyl Malate, Triethylhexanoin, C20-40 Acid, C20-40 Alcohols, Polyethylene, Synthetic Wax, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer, Ethylcellulose, Boron Nitrida, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate. May Contain: CI 77491, CI 77499, CI 77891, CI 77019, CI 77492
Produced in: Schwan-Stabilo Cosmetics GmbH & Co. KG, Germany. (similar to BLP Beauty Brow Definer, Mizzu Brow-Wow, and Beauty Story High Brow)
If only Ultima II has a spoolie, I will put this pencil on my number one. A brush is very important for me to create a natural looking eyebrow. I don’t like to use other brushes because it is too much hassle, especially when traveling. I’ve got to say that based on the packaging, Ultima II looks more luxurious. Of course it is because Ultima II is the most expensive one. The size of the pencil itself is similar to BLP, Mizzu, and Beauty Story.
Ultima II Wonderwear Eye-Posh Brow Filler is the most pigmented pencil in this category. You don’t need to give pressure whatsoever to use this product. One swipe and you will get thin but pigmented hair-stroke line. I wear the color Natural Black. It is a little bit too dark for my eyebrows. I prefer this pencil for special occasion when I wear full glam makeup. This is also last all day.
1. Beauty Story High Brow
Price: 108.000 IDR
Shade: 2 (Natural Black and Dark Brown)
Ingredients: Cl 7749, Cl 77891, MICA, Cl 77492, Cl 77491, Diisostearyl Malate, Triethylhexanoin, C20-40 Acid, Synthetic Wax, C20-40 Alcohols, Polyethylene, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer, Ethylcellulose, Boron Nitrida, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate.
Produced in: Schwan-Stabilo Cosmetics GmbH & Co. KG, Schwanweg 1, Heroldsberg, Germany. (similar to BLP Beauty Brow Definer, Ultima II Wonderwear Eye-Posh Brow Filler, and Mizzu Brow-Wow)
Beauty Story High Brow is produced in the similar company to BLP Beauty Brow Definer, Ultima II Wonderwear Eye-Posh Brow Filler, and Mizzu Brow-wow. The packaging and the size of the pencil is very similar. However, the formula is a bit different from one another. BLP is the creamiest, Ultima II is the most pigmented, and Mizzu is the closest to the Beauty Story. But, Beauty Story is a tad firmer and drier. The color is also a little bit more pigmented than Mizzu. That is why I put Beauty Story in my number one. Besides the fact that it is skinny pencil with spoolie at the other end. The packaging, in my opinion, is also the cutest. However, the price is more expensive than Mizzu.
I really like the spoolie in this product. It is similar to Mizzu’s and BLP’s.
Like I said earlier, the formula of this pencil is a little bit drier so you can easily build color and create the look of individual eyebrow hairs. Because it is firmer, it is more easy to draw the eyebrow. It is also firm enough to give a full, opaque line of color, but not so firm that it drags or pulls. Here I use Natural Black, which is very similar to the color of my eyebrow so that it gives natural looking finish. I always prefer natural shades for everyday wear. This product is also very long-lasting.
