Becca First Light Priming Filter is lavender-hued primer that claims to give instant complexion refresh to your skin. It also says that it can fix five signs of bad face day, such as fatigue, dullness, dehydration, puffiness, and fine lines.
I admit that I purchased this product because Kathleen Lights (if you love watching makeup tutorials in Youtube, you will know who Kathleen is) loves this product. On her, this product awakes her dull skin. She also has dry skin, and so do I. So I think that it might suit me.
I purchased this Becca First Light Priming Filter in Sephora Singapore for 58 SGD (or around 580.000 IDR) for 30 ml. I know it is such a splurge on a primer, but let’s see the review.
The bottle is wrapped in a bronze box with a purple line. It indicates that the bottle inside is the First Light Priming Filter, not to be mixed up with another product, Back Light Priming Filter.
When you open the box, there is a purple glass bottle with bronze cap. On top of the cap, there is a typical Becca marks. I really love the glass bottle. It feels so expensive. I love the bottle even before I try the product.
The pump in the bottle is also in bronze. This is the perfect pump for a primer. It does not pump out too much products. I usually use three pumps for the whole face.
Water, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Mica, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Stem Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Sea Water, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Menthyl Lactate, Silica, Benzimidazole Diamond Amidoethyl Urea Carbamoyl Propyl Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Amyl Cinnamal, Citral, Limonene, Linalool, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77007 (Ultramarines).
That is the ingredients in this primer. However, its main ingredients, as it said in the back of its box, are Prickly Pear Flower that quenches and revives the look of dry skin; Sodium Hyaluronate and Spring Water that hydrate and plump the skin’s appearance; and Cool Light Technology that helps provide a healthy-looking glow.
Purple color is believed to cancel out any dullness on skin. I believe that this product do so. The effect that it gives is similar to my skincare steps. For those of you who have read my morning skincare routine, you may notice that after cleansing, I use toner, serum, moisturizer, and sunblock that aim to add moisture and glow to my face. That kinda effect can be achieved only by using this primer. So, I usually use this primer on my lazy day or if I went out at night so that I don’t have to repeat my skincare routine but still have that glowy effect.
The consistency of the product is not too liquidy and not too creamy. It has a refreshing citrus scent. The color of the product is purple with white sparkles. It can be easily spread out and melt into your skin. Your skin will look luminous in an instant. However, if you are looking for primer that prolong your makeup, this is not for you.
How to Use
The way I use it is by pumping a small amount of product into my finger and then pat gently into the skin. I have tried using it without any skincare underneath, with skincare, and also with foundation on top of it. The product works perfectly in those three conditions. For everyday use, after putting this primer, I wear some concealer to cover blemish scar and undereye circle. And then, I am good to go. It will make my skin look glowy all day.
I love this product. Eventhough it is expensive, you can use sparringly because a little goes a long way. However, I think this product won’t work if you have oily skin because it will make your face so much oily. After all, I rate this product 4 out of 5. Is it worth the splurge? I would say yes.
